If you have cedar trees anywhere in your area you will have trouble with cedar apple rust unless you look for resistant varieties. We grow Liberty (good all purpose apple), winesap for cooking, and Starking Delicious which is much better than what you get in the store. We only spray twice per year...at flower petal drop and 10 days later.

All yellow apples are susceptable to cedar apple rust. I love golden delicious, but it just couldn't handle the rust.

If you started it from seed, it is something new, not an Arkansas Black. Maybe it's a spitter, maybe it'll make you rich, but it's a cross (maybe Arkansas Black x Arkansas Black, maybe not, but even so the genetic doorway is wide open).
