Helen, I forgot about the cardboard question -- Usually the garden shop will have a cartful of boxes by the register. Then as I shop, every time I see a worker stocking shelves I pick up the knocked-down boxes. The garden shop seems to have the biggest boxes, though. When I go through the check-out line I always offer to have the check out person go through the stack. I guess some people would "smuggle."
