I had a landscaper put in a hedge for my long-awaited Japanese garden and he used redtip photinias which were great but are now dying of fungus. I read on the web that this fungus is decimating redtip photinias all over the south, so I should probably replace them. What is a good fast-growing hedge that will grow in sun in the sandy, slightly acidic soil of eastern Oklahoma? We have planted southern pines to shade the area eventually but they aren't tall enough yet. However, the hedge may be partially shaded in the afternoon by the pines in the future. It will be in full sun most of the day though. I'd appreciate any help. I am very upset about the poor photinias but the future doesn't look good for them.
