Hey all,
Got a question for the experts out there. My windmills have been in the gournd for 4 years. I protected them for the first 2. I did nothing last year or this year, and they are beautiful. They are mature and 6 or 7 feet tall. This week was ridiculous weather. Monday through Thursday morning, several inches of constant rain, followed by sleet and snow Thursday night. I plan on throwing a tarp over them for any rain for a while, so they can dry out. I was wondering if I should pour some peroxide into the spear to help this process? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I've never had snow or ice damage a windmill palm. Keep it clean of debris and you should be fine.

Hey tnwindmill, glad to hear the trachys are still doing well!
I wouldnt even bother to throw peroxide on it yet, they should be okay but I would definitely keep them dry from this point on so that way they wont have any problems if we do get any serious cold.

I agree, no peroxide needed yet. Peroxide can be applied in the spring when it starts to warm up, and rot should not start until the weather warms up as well.

Furthermore, applying peroxide to the crown during cold weather means that you're adding unwanted moisture to the situation, and it may not have a chance to evaporate before more cold arrives.
