One of my favorite vines; love those purple flowers and the beans that follow. Have never eaten them but I think you can. You take really good, clear photos.

Bev, you can eat them, if you harvest them when they are one inch or smaller. Any larger and they are not good to eat and can be poisonous.

I wouldn't eat them when you can grow other beans that are for eating. The purple pods are as pretty as the flowers.

I'm with Helen, I won't be risking eating them at all. I think the dark pods are pretty too.

While I'd always thought these were attractive in the pics it wasn't until I saw one in real life that I fell in love with them. Pics really don't do the purple justice. I have a neighbor who grows one every year, and I intentionally take that route just to admire it each time I go out.
