Lowe's had gallon pots of crocosmia 'Lucifer' on clearance and I bought one. I've tried this plant before from bulbs but it didn't come back after winter. Not sure whether it was drainage or voles or just too cold.

Do they need to be dug in zone 6?

I've been looking up more info in Crocosmia. Some people in zone 5 leave it in the ground so I'm going to go ahead and plant it and see what happens. Sounds like it will either die or be invasive. : (

I didn't reply to this post because I know nothing about them (usually doesn't stop me). I assumed they were not hardy but after your comment about zone 5, I looked them up. On d's garden, the forbidden web site, people in zone 4 and 5, Aspen Colorado, Montreal Canada are growing them. I will look for them next time I go to town.

I found one on sale for $3 and will put it in a pot. The flowers are a really bright red.
