The median as you go down the hill to town had cottage garden flowers and there were others in town, but it was raining so I didn't get many pictures.

Helen, sounds like you had a good trip. Hope you didn't get rained out.
I like the tall type flowers you see in most of those type of gardens.
Do you know what the red one is in the third pic?
I haven't been down there in many years. I believe we went to a play and sight seeing.

gldno1 I took that picture of the melampodium because you had recommended it. It looked perfect no bugs no leaf problems. Name that plant forum tells me the unusual red plant may be Amaranth cruentus. I have more pictures from Nathanael Greene Park in Springfield, but I am going to give you all a little rest.

I'd love to see your photos from Nathanael Greene. I've been wanting to go by there to see how the butterfly garden is doing.

They have expanded since I was there. They are putting out different kinds of shrubs so you can see what you'd like to grow. These are small now so don't expect much yet. They had some nice combinations - sedum and vitex, purplish petunia with ageratum, a white garden with snow on the Mt. white dahlia, white butterfly bush etc. The grasses were what inspired me. There was a small one ruby grass that I am going to have to track down. Some plants that had bloomed earlier looked ratty just like in my yard, that is the nature of flowers.
