BTW, I planted some tall cosmos to fill in around the house where we took out the shrubs and they are very sorry. I don't think there have been three flowers total on all the plants and now they are dying from the ground up.

The short Cosmic Red cosmos are blooming their heads off.

Maybe the taller version seeds were bad this year.

this is the first year I have planted the tall ones. Like you I wanted to fill in an area.
I don't think I will do that again.
I may try the short cosmic red like you said. That color sounds nice. How tall do they get? Need to think where I might do that.
Told missfourseasons, One area of my lawn/flower next year is going to be tropical. I finally decided the other day. I just love those. If I'm going to make a new bed it should be something neww to me as well. (?)

I planted 12 petunia on the outter edge of my flower bed. The all died from wilt disease. Now my garden looks horrible. No more wave petunia for me.

Bonnie, here are a few pictures of the cosmic red cosmos. I would guess it is about 18x18. They are a mix of red, red-orange and a blend. I am happy with them.

I had pretty petunias for a while; then they get ugly every year. I read that you cut them back and fertilize; then they will sprout new growth and look good. I pulled most of mine up. I left a purple one blooming by a yellow celosia, cut it back. I don't like the way it looks up close. From a distance OK. I do have one petunia that I had last year and hunted for this year. I have good luck with it bubblegum pink color forgot the name. Here is its picture from June; it is the only petunia that still looks good and looked good last summer too.

gldno1, they almost remind me of so marigolds I had once. The color I mean.
I might look those up and see if the come in any other shades of color.

Wow It looks like you had plenty of that alfalfa for mulch. that sure helps cut down on the water and weeding chore.
Makes more time for something else.
