Squash plants produce two types of flowers... male and female. The males flowers usually start to appear earlier than the females. Given a little time, both will start to appear. The female flower will have a "baby" squash already formed at the base of the flower...males do not have this "baby". If the female doesn't get pollinated within a few days, the flower and "baby" drop off. What I suspect is that you are just seeing the male flowers forming at this point. Females will follow in a few days.
