Looks like Yucca to me. Do they get white flowers on them?

These are some sort of yucca. I think it takes a long time for a trunk to develop so the difference between trunked and non-trunked plants may be age. It may also be that you are seeing two different species or cultivars of yucca. There is a native yucca that grows in the wild as close as coastal Virginia, I think, and that I am sure could be planted here. I really don't know what species of yucca is the common one in gardens here.
