Caerulea

Dear gardeners,

I have been give a passion flower caerulea by a friend. The thing is that it was planted in a pot and when taking it out from the pot some small roots were probably lost. I have now plated it in a new pot in my garden and I have extended out the branches on a trellis. I was wondering it this is a good idea or if it is better to cut it down to about 50 centimetres and see if it grows back. Do you think by keeping the branches it will take it longer to recover? Should I prune it hard and see what happens?

I would guess that with some root damage pruning the top would stress it even more but I'm no expert. I would wait- if it looks like it's having trouble in a week or 2 then prune it, but if it needs the top growth to gather energy for root repair then pruning it will cause trouble.

Give it time- These plants are suprisingly hardy. I once bought a quadrangulis who was in a 5 gallon pot & about 6' tall. My Dad helped me move it... He grabbed it by the stake / vine & went to pick it up... The vine ripped from the pot & had only a fist sized root-ball still attached. We stuffed the roots back into the pot.. Watered it & hoped... Not only did it live but it's one of my biggest now.
