YES!!!! That is about what we measured and it sounds like more to come. Now that is a good thing!!

For fall foliage I would think it might be too little, too late, but don't know for sure.

Me too Ceresone. We got 1.6 inches and needed it badly.
Have to admit I was getting late summer burn-out when it comes to gardening. I haven't watered as much as I should in the last couple weeks and some of my plants are looking pathetic. Even my poke weed was wilted. lol

You all beat us......we just got 1 inch. Let's hope we get more tonight. I'm afraid it may be too late for good fall color. We took a drive yesterday and noticed some sassafras beginning to turn and lots of yellow leaves drifting down.......

Christie, this is about the time of year, rain or not, that I start loosing interest.....and thinking about getting the mower out and cutting down some beds.

BEAUTIFUL RAIN INDEED! After this awful summer I'm really ready for fall. Sure hope we get to see some beautiful fall foilage! We got up to 3 inches here in NW Arkansas, very needed! Supposed to have more tonight. NOW somebody please tell me how to run off those @!&$ ARMADILLAS! They are tearring my gardens to bits!

Thursday morning--we got ANOTHER 1.70 inches last night--and its still raining!!numama, for the first time ever, i've had armadillos in my garden, they've, so far, only torn up the mulched areas, havent gotten into my raised beds-concrete blocks, 3 high-but made a mess of my beautiful mulched garden. and-i mean just only started, last 4 days.one good thing it did, is eat a yellow-jacket nest under my step, didnt know they did that, but when i went to spray it, you could see where he'd dug to it--and it was gone.AND, now i'm told, wild hogs have moved in too.

We had 1/2 inch overnight and another 1/2 inch so far this morning, up to 2inches total. We are just delighted! We sat on the porch this morning with our coffee listening to the rain...it was wonderful.

numama, have you tried trapping them? We had so many possums and skunks earlier that we bought a trap and caught several of both.

It's funny you should mention the armadillos. I've had one lately thats been digging in my grass, has'nt gotten onto any beds yet but I may have solved that anyway. I came out day before yesterday to water some stuff under the porch at about 5 a.m. and when I walked around the corner there he/she was. They have very poor sight so it did'nt see me. Out of a knee jerk reaction I kicked that thing some 15 to 20 feet across my front yard. When it landed it was moving. I watched it running down the street till it went out of sight. Hopefully it won't be back.

We got 2 1/2 MORE inches of rain so that makes slightly over four inches altogether. Yipee! Maybe I can finally roll up the hoses and put them away for the summer.
Does drought hurt fall color? I think I read once that it also has a lot to do with cool temps at night with hot temps during the day in the fall. I've been seeing some red sumac along the roadsides. Fall is always way too short for me. Seems like it gets too cold so quickly just when it's getting nice to work outside.

We got a good rain last night. My garden looks terrible, but somehow a good rain improves the look over night. I have noticed armadillos to be worse in drought years. I think it is because your yard is easier digging. A shotgun is the best solution if you live in the country. I trapped one once (actually put a trash can over it - funniest home video material). After I had it in my trash can I had to figure out where to dump it. City people think nobody lives out here, but actually the houses are fairly close. I dumped mine on the dirt road, but felt guilty because it could easily reach someone else's yard. You have to take responcibility for your own animal problems and shouldn't dump them on someone else. I am not comfortable killing animals, but sometime it has to be done.

Darn things haven't gotten into my raised beds either but I wouldn't put it past them to tear them down! I made them out of rocks I collected from my creek bed.

I have not tried trapping them. Don't know if I could be strong enough to be face to face with one!

I'm right in town off Hwy. 71 but am surrounded by a creek and woods. Don't think the shotgun idea would be a good one although I sure feel like using a shotgun!

Stupid me thought my only problem would be squirrels! It's amazing what you can learn in three years through experience ... RACOONS, DEER, etc. The recent rains seems to have kept them in their homes as I have not had damage the last couple days during the rainfall. I've got more vinegar to pour onto some old clothing and rags outlining my gardens. I sure hope when the rain washed it out it doesn't soak into my plants! I think I have the rags far away enough from my plants. Will vinegar hurt my soil or plants?
