Philly horticultural gems

I'm going to be teaching a hort class this fall at Temple Ambler and I'm looking for good spots for field trips. I've definately decided on Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve, and I'm deciding if the Morris Arboretum and Bartram's Gardens should both be included. But I'm wondering if there are any small, urban gems of gardens I should also consider that I don't know about. I don't want them to be too far away from Ambler, which is why I'm not going to Longwood Gardens or Winteraruthur. Any ideas greatly appreciated, thanks!

You might want to take the students on a tour of Hortulus. It's a little north of Newtown off of route 413. They will do tours and have magnificent gardens over and above thir nursery.

I found out there is no budget for field trips. Don't think I can ask students to pay admission to these places, so now I'm looking for free options, or very inexpensive.

Scott Arboretum ( Swarthmore College campus) is free. Lots of wonderful plant collections. In the arboretum office is an interactive screen which can be used to locate woody plants at the arboretum.

Expect to be impressed!
