My thought too, gaillardia. I had one once for about a minute but the other gaillardias to well here.

Melampodium is a favorite of mine too,also annual vinca. Be sure to try that one.

I like the large statue. Is he heavy? I started buying garden "art" when we had two years of drought a few years ago. I am too cheap to buy big impressive pieces, but they are probably a good investment. If it doesn't start raining I may have to go for metal and concrete garden beauties. It is a bad sign to have a huge drop in temperature with no rain.

Helen, no St. Francis isn't heavy at all. He's hollow plaster. I think I got him at Big Lots, but I can assure you he was cheap because I just don't spend a lot of money on garden art. There's a Cheshire Cat I want so badly at Wickman's in Spfd but can't bring myself to pay the $100 for him.

Oh, and yes, I adore annual vinca just never got around to planting any this year.

teeand cee I saw a Cheshire Cat at Wickman's in Monett. I'll bet he is the one you like. He was over a $100. I also like a big baby bird in a nest in the same style also over $100. I wish I was clever enough to make them. The cat was kind of flat and the bird was mainly in the shape of a ball. I would have taken a picture but I wasn't bold enough to do that.
