I have never transplanted a pygmy date, but I would water the palm well first. Then dig about 2' out around the trunk(s). Be careful to catch the rootball in burlap and intact. Replant and water well. As long as the roots are not too damaged the palm should recover. You may see some signs of transplant shock like old fronds dying off. Dont make the mistake and fertilize the palm you will burn the roots.

Palms generally don't like being transplanted so make sure it's roots are disturbed as little as possible. There will be some shock and it probably won't grow too well the first year in it's new spot, but it should pick back up without any problems. If the transplanting doesn't work, you can get new pygmy palms for the same size for around 50 dollars at that size.
