I love The Pearl for it's huge white flowers and of course the old,classic Heavenly Blue. Do you soak the seeds beforehand? If you let them sit overnight in water they will pop open and grow pretty quickly,provided the soil is really warm. Some people start them ahead of time in pots but I've done both and they always flower at the same time no matter how they go into the ground.I share your love of them.

If you nick the seed slightly it will germinate faster also

Thanks to both of you for the replies. Next year I will soak and nick the seeds and see what happens. Also I love the vine forum never knew it was there. Some of those pictures are spectacular!!!

This is my first yesr growing them the first ones came out are purple ones but a few weeks ago finally my 2nd set came out and the are blue and bigger. They produce the seed for next year so now im busy getting seeds off them.I wish when the seed falls they would come back on there own.

Nancy, they probably will self seed. Old 'heavenly blue' can grow to be a nuisance that way in a good soil. Most of the old standbys are seed hardy at least to z6, and probably z5.

yes, they do reseed, i've got them growing in places where i wasn't careful in throwing away the stuff i cut down in the fall.
i might not have to do any 'fall cleaning' this year. looks like the deer will do that for me. they ate not only what was growing on the back deck, but the morning glories that were growing up the posts on the front porch as well.
