There are many hardy camellias that are well worth it, they are primarily the Ackerman series, most are rated to 6b, some to 6a. Aucubas are great too. Otto Luyken laurels, dwarf mountain laurels, Illicium, Osmanthus goshiki, leucothoe, and skimmia are all good choices. I wish I had more shade, I'd have them all.

I just have the Rhodededron to offer for suggestion. The Hollies were already mentioned. AS were the Mountain laurel, well, some mountain laurel were, the Kalmia latifolia wasn't but, maybe that was because there wasn't enough shade? But Rhodedendron Maximum is the tree sized Rhody native to the eastern coast of the US. They slowly grow to 15-20 feet tall in shade. I have 2 which I have planted recently. They bloom in deep shade.

Yews and Cherry laurels like (ieOtto Luyken laurels)
do great in the shade.
I currently have china boy holly to the left of my front door. I have a similar space to the right of my door but it gets no light due to the roofline.

Look up the definition of Landscape Design principals - look for --- Balance. You really do not need to plant a matching or similar plant on both sides of the door. And the selections should be tall - like the holly. Your goal is to welcome you to the front entrance. Try not plant shrubs that would be taller than the person coming to the door.

I'd go with the Mahonia. Either Mahonia aquifolium or Mahonia bealei. I have the bealei and love it. The birds love the berries too. It's usually the first thing to bloom in the spring; it even beats my hamamelis!
