Killing frost

Well, it was our turn last night. outbuildings look as if there is snow on the roof. fields are white too, so, i guess it means that today, i'll start putting my gardens to bed for the winter.have to clean out the chicken house and fix another raised bed, then where i dont have them yet, put down a thick layer of hay. strange, spring comes, and we protect everything so careful--then this time of year are glad to see it go, and move on to the next phase. reminds me of life, dosent it?

Ceresone, we have been getting frost as far south as here for the last few mornings. While not killer frosts, roof tops had good blanket of white on them. I have fall tomatoes in containers that I provided protection from the frost and they seem to be ok. I have garlic, shallots, mustard greens, turnips, beets and carrots that I planted a few weeks back and they all appear to be growing well. Hope all is well with you and the others up in the Ozarks.

Yolonda, I miss the weekly forum too, think everyone's getting ready for winter. I finished mowing this morning, working on getting the garden "put to sleep". fixing as many raised beds as i have blocks to use. we want to try to put sealer on the deck tomorrow. tell you what, if noone else starts nov. with a journal, one of us will, ok?

Yes, please let's start the journal again! We don't have to post daily, maybe once a week. I really miss checking in with everyone.

We were gone this past week.....took a trip to Tennessee. Had a wonderful time. They had lots of frost even as far south as Lynchburg. Tennessee is a beautiful state and we were just overwhelmed with how beautiful the Tn. River is. Saw lots of cotton being harvested which was new for us.

Ceresone, I may have been pretty close to your area? We traveled highway 60 through Mo. to Poplar Bluff. Gorgeous country down that way too. You sound like you are ready for winter....we want to cut some wood too. BTW, do you like your chipper/shredder? I have wanted one for years.

I see all my annuals are killed by frost except the salvias. I will get out this week and clean all that up.

Of course, no rain hit while we were gone. I will have to get out and water my new stuff tomorrow.

Frozen percipitation on the windshields three mornings last week..but warmer now. Nothing seems harmed much except some of the mums. Brugs are still blooming and even the elephant ears we left are fine. Got everything else in the greenhouse or stored last weekend and are on a workfree vacation right now...waiting on rain. Roses are tough..they love the frost!
