Karen, where in SA did you find these? I'm curious to know. And in my experience, labeling by color has little or no relationship to the actual passi itself. My local Home Depot has a bunch of 5-gallon incense labled simply as "Purple passion flower." So no, I have no idea what "Maroon" might actually be--I haven't heard of A&M working on a passi breeding program!

Lady Margaret would probably do best in partial shade, blocked from the searing afternoon sun. It's been pretty brutal this year already, and you know how bad it gets in August.

I found them at "Shades of Green" on Sunset Road. There were four pots with bamboo trellises, some labeled "Lady Margaret" for 9.50, and some labeled "Maroon passion flower" for 8.00. Since the blooms looked mostly the same, guess which one I picked? ;-)

I did end up putting it in full sun, but it's a northern exposure, and in a half-barrel, so I can move it back to where it will get some afternoon shade. I keep hearing passis like lots of sun -- I'm just not sure they mean TEXAS sun.

Passis do like sun, but if they're not hardened off, they can take a beating. And some tropical species are from the mountains, so while they love sun, they don't stand up that well to high temperatures. Not entirely which category Lady Margaret falls into!

Karen, I just now had a chance to take a closer look at Lady Margaret, and happily discovered it's a coccinea/incarnata cross. Not only should it be able to handle full sun, its incarnata parentage might mean it could weather our mild winters as well.

I'm hoping to get over to Shade of Green this week and see if they have any left. I'm going to pot it for caution's sake, but if I can get a cutting to root, I'll have to put one in the ground and see how it fares.
