I don't think this is your plant from what you've said about your gardening space,it would be awsome if it is ,but have you seen the flowers of this passiflora? Its fruit look like p. fotedia if you have seen the flowers did they smell bad? Thats one way to tell if its fodedia also was there ever a stringing system of tendrals around the top of the fruit? Where is it in some gardens? I would just love to visit the tropics.

I had thought this might be a p. edulis hybrid because isn't it the case that some crosses of the purple & yellow versions of edulis produce red fruits?

You mentioned foetida, but the foetida that I know of here, they have tiny fruits, about the size of tip of the thumb, is orangy yellow when ripe, and fruit is encased in a husk. They grow in the wild here.

I douted foetida because of the size but i have never seen an edulis of that color. It may be a edulis hybrid but about how big are the fruit?

Here you don't see to many passifloras. There are more at gardens but still not that many. Because of this I dont have to much first hand experience with growing many varietys or seeing many. It would be cool if its some hybrid that red fruit. Oh and have you eaten any? just wondering what they taste like.
