Things sure have been dry here and everything looks brown and crispy. I hope this rain will save our fall colors, but am not sure. Trees seem to have turn earlier than normal and they are not looking as nice as in previous years. Still pretty but not as nice as before.

Took a drive today up to Lake of the Ozarks and they might have picked up a bit more rain this year than in our parts. Raining all the way and there is still a lot more green than my area but it's looking very pretty already. We're making plans to go up again soon just to see how it all compares.

Fall season seems to have snuck up on us rather quickly this year -- not really looking forward to winter already!

No rain here but almost three inches of drizzle in the last few days. lol
I love those slow soaking in rains. It's unusual for September to be so dry. I was ready to roll up the hoses at the end of August and put them away and was thinking we'd had an easy summer but September was really hard on my shade garden and I've got three ferns and a hosta that have completely disappeared. I'm hoping they come back next year. I have a few other hostas that look awful and have yellow leaves. I don't know if they're just going dormant or if they didn't get enough water. Maybe both.

I learned two things this year that I should have known......hostas need lots of rain/water and so do hydrangeas!!
My hostas didn't look good all year....they are on the north side of the house but somehow get lots of west sun late in the day and it fried them! I don't know if I will move them or plant a large shrub/small tree on the west end of the bed. Also they were shot full of holes. I rarely spray anything, but may have to rethink that. I started a new hosta bed with some plants carried over from pots bought the year before (or more...) but I religiously kept them soaked. Hopefully they will do better since a large apple tree is on the west side of them.
