I'm not an expert with passionflowers (I just got my maypop the other day), but did you grow yours from seed, or did you start it as a cutting? If it was a cutting, was it tented with plastic wrap, etc to keep the humidity high? I tried growing a tropical passionflower last year, I put it in a clay pot and watered it only when the soil was really dry, which it didn't seem to mind at all. Do you think it's being overwatered? Mine died from our house being too cold, btw, not my black thumb, ha ha!

I was sent a garbage bag full of P incarnata roots and vines. I put them in containers and in the yard. The ones in the containers are doing well but I hadn't been watering the ones in the yard and we've been having a mini-drought. No rain for almost 2 months and all the vines in the yard had dried up. We finally had some rain and I was shocked to see incarnata vines sprouting out of the ground a few days later so I wouldn't give up on it if the roots look viable.

They will resprout from the roots, given half a chance. The trick is to keep the soil moist, but not wet, which will drown them. A moisture meter which can be found at Wal-Mart or home improvement store garden sections is a good investment.

I had passis with shrivelling leaves that looked like they were dying from drought, so I kept watering. Then I got the meter ($5 or thereabouts) and learned that the soil was super-saturated (only the very surface was drying out) and the plants were drowning. Problem solved.

It finally sproated!

Yeah!! I'm beginning to think the incarnata is indestructible. I have them coming up from roots of plants that I would have sworn were dead. Not only that but some are sprouting 3 feet away from where they were originally planted earlier this year!

Looks like you could get lots of little sprouts.. When I was a kid we had maypops on the fence in the yard and so on. My mother would mow them down she hated them.. They would come back even stronger and multiply...I offered her one the other day ..LOL I don't quite remember her response...but was NO..
