New week-Nov.13,07

Think this is going to be a long week.

glad son-in-law only had 2 days off-we cut split and hauled 3 rank of wood yesterday. need it bad, but oh, I'm so sore. more to do today.

then back to the garden, more lovely leaves have fallen that just beg to be piled on my garden beds.

Yes, Gldno, I prefer a general subject forum, as winter is slow for gardening, but thats when we have the most time to catch up with all the friends here. Anyone else?

Still looking for affordable hay this year, my hay man let me down, but afraid old age is affecting him TOO.

What does everyone think? Are we going to have a mild winter, (which isnt here middle of November) or are we going to get hit badly by the weather before long?

On gardening, I've raised wayy too much garlic this year, and I have garlic cloves and bulblets everywhere, think I'll go down to my chip pile, and sow garlic, think it will grow? Best to everyone.

I've had 3 big oaks to die last year and yesterday a neighbor came to start cutting them down and hauling them home for firewood.I've a lot of seedlings around, guess i'll replant so someone will have oak trees there someday.

My indoor tomato plant has 3 buds on it. I keep checking it afraid they'll fall off before they open.

I hope we have a hard winter. we are overdue for one and we need to get rid of some bugs. I've seen it hit hard around Christmas before.Keep your fingers crossed.

I bought a Christmas cactus last week. Now i've a pink one and a red. The pink bloomed off and on all winter last year hope they do this year.

Everyone better fill their cars up as soon as they can. I just read that gas is going up another 20 cents in the next two weeks.

Please don't talk about gas prices.....I get mad every time I think about it. I just hope we can all keep hanging on......

We spent yesterday setting up a 90° sweep for the cattle working system. Even though we used the tractor for the heaviest pieces, my right arm is sore today. Hopefully, that will be the last we have to buy. The last time we worked the cattle I chased one darned cow around the holding pen until I had to stop and sit on a bucket; thought I was having a heart attack! I told DH if we kept the cows we had to make it as easy as possible on us old folks! Hope the darned thing works.

Re: High Speed (Total Wireless) I just noticed my speed from the antenna to the computer has changed from 100 kpbs to 28.8. I called two days ago, but they haven't returned the call. Everything else seems to be the same. Got me wondering. I keep getting the answering machine.

It is very overcast and cool here today, but we did get a nice 1/2 inch rain which we needed badly. Still haven't done any more outside regarding cleanup.

vickie, we have lost lots of our oak trees to the beetle from down your way or so I am told. It makes me so sick to see those huge trees die. We have to keep planting them; the neighbor we bought the farm from planted trees in 1992 and your wouldn't believe how big they are now. She was in her 70's when she planted them. I keep telling myself that as I plant new ones.

Monday morning-think I can hold out 2 more days!I have 5 beds to go, then I will have my garden beds put to sleep for the winter under a foot of nice leaves--Oh, I do hope we get rain before wind-or you might see me running by, chasing my leaves.
Rather funny yesterday, I know now my Guardian Angel has a sense of humor, I was making the circle with the tractor and sweeper, and admiring my last load of leaves on the bed--when a tiny whirlwind picked up a armful of leaves, and scattered them all over!
Going to be a rather hectic week with the weather turning bad tomorrow night, going to be home Thanksgiving day, children cant get along well enough to have dinner together, think thats what happens when you have 3 daughters, and 10 years later, have a boy--percieved slights in their own mind.
Strangely, its the son who is this way!
Think I have the berries, trees and grapes ready for a dormant spray mid-winter, cleaned all the mummies off the grapes, but didnt prune them, they are 50+year old concords that seems to object to pruning.Sure hope we dont have another hard freeze in the spring.
Anyone else watching the news lately? Earthquakes in strange places, tidal waves, ice storms, wars(seems we MUST be world police)and we've had 5 teenaged boys killed in accidents, several mothers in fatalities, hope all my friends on here are careful--but have their hearts in order.
but--on a lighter note-GOD when you think its my time, takle the Bermuda Grass first!!

ceresone, you have a great sense of humor. What a great little message for God! He can take mine too.

I just transferred my little sweet potato crop from the garage over to the milk parlor where I can have some heat if I need to to keep things above freezing.

Still haven't done anymore yard or garden clean-up.

I have doing some pre-cooking for Thanksgiving. Both kids are coming home....we will have a dinner at the in-laws and then I will cook my traditional dinner here. Our house isn't very large and with them all here it really gets hectic and I figure I better do all I can before the grandkids hit.

If I don't get back before, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
