I made one of those years ago. Bermuda grass took over mine but that is not the fault of the pyramid. Last time I tried strawberries, the variety I choose was flavorless. I would like to know a good tasting variety.

Cardinals are a good tasting june strawberry and is easily found here and has always done well for me.
My BIL used a pyramid bed he made himself and it did well. He used it for several years.

I'll look for Cardinals. I grow flowers in big pots and buy potting mix for them. I don't know if it would be cost effective to use expensive potting mix for strawberries. Every time I have tried to grow them the grass in them was a huge problem. I am wondering if a pyramid with landscape cloth underneath and a sterile mix might work. On gardening by the yard, Paul made raised beds with purchased weed free materials. It seems like you could buy produce cheaper, but maybe you could keep renewing the soil like sweet william does with his leaves and molasses etc. If you could use it for several years, it would be nice.

helen- a strawberry bed takes a large amount of growing medium. i built one yrs ago and it worked well. there is no way of keeping bermuda grass out of anything. to be cost effective , maybe you could use straw as a filler and top up once a yr with soiless potting mix. just my opinion.

With my containers it seems so much easier to controll any grass and weeds. i can catch it before it gets a good start. I use potting soil and added liquid fertilizer last year. This will be my third year to grow in containers. My daylilies did much better in pots but need to do a better job somehow with my veggies. I know i can get a bigger crop.

I think it is easier to grow flowers in pots, but the potting mix is expensive. What brand do you use Vickie? I will some day make that mix that is on the container gardening forum. He calls for fertilizer that has trace elements. I just need to take the time to scan what he has written and order the fertilizer.
