New Watering System

I went to HD yesterday to pick up some things, including my pentas, colocasia 'Black Magic', and sweet potato vine, and I found this kit consisting of 50' of tubing, and 5 sprinkler spouts. I installed it this morning and it works beautifully, for $20! I think I'm going to try to buy one each paycheck, it is so, so cool!

Just had to share that. I have to find ways to water that don't put me out in the yard as much during the heat of the summer. I've had so many physical ailments this last 2.5 years, it is taking its toll on my heat stamina.

    Great!
I'm glad the drip is working for you, Susan.
I really like the soaker hose I have winding through my beds in the front and in the back. In some cases, its wound completely around plants, like a huge hydrangea that needs a lot of water.
The soaker saves a lot of money and wear and tear on the old body during the heat of summer. The only watering, other than this that I do now is in the morning or evening from the rain barrels or once a week for the lawn.

    Susan,

Don't you love it! I have even used drip irrigation from a similar kit to water the hanging baskets on my porch for several years. I use mostly soaker hoses in the landscape though.

Glad your drip watering system is successful, Susan. Not only is it easier on you, it saves water by putting it only where it is needed - and that's something we all need to think about in our semi arid environment.

Wow, no kidding, not to mention the fact that after back surgery last year, I don't want to tempt fate by bending over all the time to get under my plants. I do still get a tiny bit embarrassed when the cars are driving by on 40th Street, and my big booty is all they see to my front garden bed! At least I'm fully clothed. We used to have a neighbor lady in Norman who would get out in the middle of the night and dance naked in her front yard. Settle down, guys, this is not a lady you would have pictured on the front of Vogue magazine.

I'm still on the soaker hoses in the back yard, but still need to get that old one replaced with the new one I bought. So much to do, so little time. The bane of having to work a full time job downtown and try to accomplish small things on the weekend.

Any ideas for recycling the old soaker hose? It just has about a 1' length that is busted open in it.

Susan--get a couple of male an a couple of female hose fittings at the hardware store or Wallyworld. You now have two more soaker hoses.

We really don't have anywhere to use a 25 or 50 foot lenght of hose due to small beds. I just cut off what I need and add the necessary fittings. It's amazing how many ways shorter lengths come in handy.

I just love all the various fittings you can get to put together with hoses and send hose running this way and that. Adds new meaning to the word "networking"! LOL Just be sure you take a small section of the soaker hose with you to buy fittings to be sure you get the right size.

Cool.....you'll find me at Home Depot this weekend, in the hose and trash can isle.

    Thanks, guys and gals.
