You could have panels on only one side. See: The other option is roman blinds:

If you are trying to hide the odd placement of those windows (what are builders thinking??!), then you need a panel on each side of each window, hung so that they appear symmetrical...see rendering....

PH, great idea! And you're right, what are builders thinking?

The treatment on only one side would work but you're not grasping the situation - the wide side isn't on the same side of the window - one window is closer to the fireplace than the other.

I do see the point to the drapes and the way they're hung to help secure the error, but we're pretty far off and I'm not sure it would look right.

I think what Ph interiors, llc is suggesting is that you put the drapes on both sides of the window for both windows(not like the illustration is showing:only 3 drapes) to give the illusion that they are symmetrical. It's like when you hang drapes close to the ceiling even though the window is lower, its to give the illusion that your room is taller than it really is. hope that helps.

PH, On the longest wall of my hallway, I have not only the thermostat, but the carbon monoxide detecctor, the doorbell, and a light. I would love to put pictures here but it would be so willy-nilly!

Agree with PH. You need to play a bit with the width of the treatment so that you can place the curtain farthest from the fireplace at a similar distance as on the opposite window. This will give you the appearance of a wider window and create symmetry.

Sherry & Steve, If you scroll over my rendering, you should see both windows with a panels on each side of each window - 4 panels total.
