i might have the northern most coconut palm on the east coast!!!

Very nice coconut. It could be the most (probably at least one of the most) northern growing coconut palms in the eastern part of the US if it survives. But it has a very nice summer of growth ahead of it. It might get close to doubling in size this summer. My coconut palm pushed its spear up about 5 inches in only a week from the warm weather, and thats here in a zone 7 IN APRIL! They are very fast growing and you are going to get a really nice tropical look from them.

Great looking tree you got there! I want one at my place, but I didn't have any luck with the one I tried in Frostproof. Then again, it wasn't spotted in a particularly good microclimate (northern exposure at my aunt's request :( ). If I close on my new house, I, might build a semi-enclosed area, painted in dark colors, with very quick draining soil on the south side of the house, and try a few of the tricks that the guys and gals in the northern states use to grow their trachy's when the weather gets like it did this winter. Only problem is that they grow so darn fast and it's a single story house...

I live right in the NYC area. My coconut palm is still little. I got it in june of 2009 and it only had 2 leaves. It probably sprouted some time in the winter of 08-09 making it a little over a year old now. It compltely grew one leaf inside this winter (which is the tattered one) and 3 leaves this past summer. Its still making seedling leaves, but Im hoping for some adult fronds soon. Considering I almost lost it to bugs inside, I think its in pretty good health. Its very green and one of the few plants that are truely loving this heat.
I have a garbage bin next to it to show the size. This pic was taken last week and the center leaf was too small to get in the pic then, but as of now I think it would actually be large enough to see from the same area where this pic was taken.
I think Im going to have to re-pot it soon, maybe in a few weeks when the weather is permenantly in the 70s and 80s.

Good luck with your coconut palm!! It might be a little too young to fruit this year, but I wouldnt be surprised if you get fruit next summer or the summer after if it doesnt get too much winter damage. That would be really impressive!

Great looking palm Jason! I hope we in Jax have better luck next winter. I have a coconut palm that it now more than 5 ft tall. I purchased this one from Walmart 2 years ago for $10. Also I have a X-mas palm about the same height. I'll post some pics soon.

I actually got it off ebay. Im pretty sure they are still being sold (only got it for about 4 or 5 dollars w/o including shipping). If you want to know the sellers name I can tell you.
I hope your palm gets some growth soon. As long as its condition begins to improve, there is lots of hope. Im sure by now the weather is getting pretty warm down there so I guess if any new growth is coming, it will be soon. I wish you luck!

I want to see a pic of your coconut palm! dont forget to send a pic! i must be crazy....i drove to central florida yesterday and bought a 18 foot Royal palm! i just planted it today! i will post some pics soon. everyone in my neighboorhood i dont think has ever seen this palm before! they are all staring at it.

Robert, unfortunately my coconut palm didnt survive the first winter after i planted it . i moved a few years ago to central florida and now have a royal palm that has survived 3 winters so far ! I live i sanford now
