I'm not an expert, but I have read that sometimes if it's warm enough the peonies will send up stalks before winter hits. I've read not to worry about it, I think the stalks will die back (you can probably cut them back after frost) and then they will send up new shoots in spring. We're in a slightly cooler area, all of mine that I planted last month the eyes are much bigger but no green growth happening.

That is really weird. Did you fertilize them when you plant them esp.one high in nitrogen? Can I ask what are the names of the peonies that you planted?

I had the same thing happen here in Co, Lee. Joker was one of them, don't remember what the other was, both were newly planted earlier in Oct. It's been a really warm fall until today, I've never had this happen before. I'm just hoping for the best.

The peonies are "my love" and I'll email the grower - I didn't think of that before. I planted 3 of the same kind. No fertilizer, but I did amend the soil with compost.
