Most likely these are the eggs that will hatch into larva that will eventually become the "Whitefly". Squishing thsoe eggs now will greatly reduce the numbers of adults you see and will reduce the damage to the plants the larva cause. Garlic oil sprays are sometimes effective in keeping the eggs from hatching, otherwise all control methods are aimed at the larva, predatory beetles or parasitic wasps, insectcidal soap sprays, or as a last resort pyrethrin based sprays or dusts which are fairly broad spectrum poisons.

Those ARE whitefly eggs. Though they have nothing to do with why your plants are becoming limp.

But know that the adults, as well as the nymphal stage (not really what we would call larvae) are serious feeders of plant juices. Washing those eggs off NOW will help solve some serious pest issues later.

if it were me.. i would seriously cut back the plant.. removing what.. 99% of the problem... then get in there and wash them off ...

if you cant fathom touching them.. just throw the plant away.. and get others ... its not all that late in the season to start over ...

sometimes its just not worth the effort ... especially when the chems or sprays will cost 10 times as much as a couple more petunia ... eh???

brnagan, A sharp spray of water will help wash those eggs off the leaves, insecticidal soap or horticultural oils might also help.
