Hello! we are working on a fairly large scale remodel/update of our family waterfront home. Current dilemma: what to do about the fireside. I've attached several photos so you can see what we are working with- the fireside is sunken with built-in seating. Ignore the terrible tile, that will all be hardwood, and we are refinishing the seating wood and got all new cushions in a stunning graphite gray. We want to modernize with a stylish and streamlined gas fireplace but are uncertain what to do with the mantel. We will tear down that wood overlay, but then what?! should we paint the brick? should we cover the whole thing in concrete? or I've seen some great looking corten steel fireplace surrounds. Any ideas? We love modern, minimalist, and industrial repurposed, simple, nothing flashy! We like earth tones, grays, browns, greens. We would love to hear some ideas, thanks!
