Rabbit War Plan - thoughts?

I'm getting ready to put in a herb and veg garden and I wanted your thoughts on my plan to keep the bunnies at bay.

First I'm going to put up a little fence with a wire mesh behind it. I'm thinking about 1 foot high and buried a few inches into the ground.

Next, I'm going to plant marigolds around the perimeter. Then, I'm planning to intersperse lavender and geraniums through out. I read they don't like these and the thought is that for those that do try to make it through the fence, they first encounter something they don't like. It will also add some nice color.

Any thoughts? Further suggestions?

i would skip all the vegetative things [presuming budget is an issue].. and invest all the money in a heavier duty fence system ... and bury it deeper ...

PS: and i would trap the rabbits and be done with them .... but i suppose you couldnt do that... yet anyway ....

Better fencing & get a dog.
People don't realize that the imperative to find food is very powerful, to both herbivores & carnivores. Rabbits cannot go to the supermarket to get chow for the kids. When they find a garden full of tasty tender edibles (unfortunately, the same things we like to eat) they feel very lucky; all this good stuff in a small area & predators fenced out! The urge to eat when food is found is so strong, you have to have some awfully powerful deterrents up to keep bunnies out. Because they don't have other options, as we do---if your garden does not do so well, you will still be able to get your salad at the market.
The flowers will make you happy, but the rabbits will just hop past the things they don't like & eat what they do. And if they are hungry enough, they'll eat them too.
