John if your in zone 5 then Id go with a Celadine or Intense rainbow or even Puu Kahea. Yellow based plumies are the easiest to root/grow/thrive. Oranges tend to need heat and sun to achieve their orange hue, like Kimo, Penang Peach, University Hawaii Orange, etc. Reds tend to be the most sensitive to fluctuating temps and cold (first ones to die back if there is temps in the mid 30's or get Black tip like Donald Angus or Wildfire). Depending on the rainbow it may not be a profuse/free bloomer in zone 5.

the flowers on Kimo in the spring before we get good heat are just kind of pale and not very exciting. But in the middle of summer when it's 92 at 3 am those blooms are astounding.

I never knew that about the reds, now I know why the one red in the backyard always seems to be the only one with any sign of passing through winter. I think I will move it to the front yard where it is more protected in winter. Thanks for the info!

Good luck in making a decision, it appears the rest of us do not have that kind of self-control. We are already plotting strategies for cutting sales, plant sales and drooling over websites.
