Hornworm caterpillar. Remove as you see them.

One of the larva of the Sphinx Moth known as a hornworm. They are voracious eaters of plants. If seen with what appears to be rice kernels on them leave them be.

I'm thinking that this might be a young Virginia Creeper sphinx moth caterpillar. Sphinx moths tend to be very host plant specific about where they'll lay their eggs. Virginia creeper and grapes are their primary hosts.

i dont see any damage on the leaves shown ...

grapes are usually aggressive enough.. to take a lot of damage... google the suggested moths.. and consider it might be a mighty show to watch them develop ...

as compared to living in some disney movie... where leaves and plants are pristine ...

in other words... destroying them.. would be a negative .. to your full garden experience ... IMHO ...

Here is a link that might be useful: actually.. i call them hummingbird moths as they are near as big as such.. as they feed in the evening ... on fragrant flowers ... well.. is see them on 4 ocloks which bloom in teh evening.. just after.. wait for it.. 4 o'clock ...

Timmytoo, if you google Darapsa myron ( Virginia Creeper Sphinx moth), you'll be able to see what the moths look like. Ken's link illustrates mostly tobacco/tomato hornworms and their moths.

It's quite a striking moth.

hey!!! ... i saw one of those hanging on the barn last week.. i thought its weird wing pattern meant the wings were damaged...

go figure

regardless ... do keep in mind.. gardening involves more than perfect plants ... some of these moths are spectacular ... and i will give up a picture perfect plant to see them ... its akin to my interest in fungii .... its a free show of nature... revel in it ...
