White caterpillars

I found two white caterpillars on my astilbe last night. They were about 2 inches long, on the fat side, not hairy. It was dark out (I was out drowning asiatic garden beetles) so I didn't take a picture. Any ideas? Thanks!

I can't think of any white catetpillar that isn't fuzzy or hairy. Check again tonight and take a picture.

Could have been off-white, pale green, pale yellow? I will try to find more tonight.

OK, here are pictures. This is one of the caterpillars I saw last night. I knocked it into my soapy water and it had been there for 24 hours when I took this picture. So it's a little misshapen and waterlogged. Hope you can see something. It looks a bit darker/browner now than it did while it was alive.

Sorry, no idea. The image didnt help me. I've done a quick search to see what might use Astilbe as a host plant but came up empty.

You might want to post in the Butterfly Gardening Forum here at Gardenweb. Come back and let us know.
