Nevermind...I found it. Squash vine borer. Any ideas on how to prevent them would be appreciated though. I have a melon next to it that appears unaffected and is the best grower in my garden. Definitely don't want to lose that! I also have a pumpkin on the other side that isn't doing that well. Looks healthy, just growing very sloooowly.

Control of the Squash Vine Borer, and the Squash Bug, should begin when you plant and is a multi faceted approach. Floating Row Covers can be of some help, as well as numerous other steps. Care in spraying insecticides is needed since many that are used will also kill off the predators of these wee buggers. The linked treatise from your University of Georgia may be of some help,

Don't rely on it alone to provide you with plenty of information. Visit the Vegetable gardening Forum to read others' experience with this dreaded pest. Since you have only a few plants, you can prevent infestation by employing quite a few tricks of the trade.

Read other fact sheets, too. The SVB is tricky, but not impossible to control.
