Leaves will grow where the leaves where removed.

These vines are quite vigorous in the wild. I think they can take some defoliation, should be able to come back. But see if you can keep the rainwater off the plant. Maybe fungus in the rainwater?

While not as aggressive as wild grape or poison ivy, one of these vines is quite capable of killing a large hardwood tree.

The pic at the right is a white ash with several creepers on it.

They are nice to look at in the fall.

Thanks...someone else said the same thing about the rain and in fact, I think the problem DID start after we had a deluge of rain for an entire week.

But how exactly can one control the rain or keep the rain from the plant? You mean like just shake the plant off when I can, after a rain? And how do plants in the real wild fare then, since obviously they have to accept the rain as is?

Hmm, yeah, probably the rain. What made me think of it is because that's what creeper looks like if you spray it with diluted herbicide (Roundup).

Well, I was kinda thinking that maybe you have some shelter someplace for the creeper, roof overhang, etc. Then just water the pot by hand. I don't think the leaves ever have to get wet.

I also think the rain is cleaner here, out in the country (Warren County, NJ). We get migratory birds / ducks here you would never see in Bergen County, NJ, much less, NYC.

Remember, the wind generally blows west to east.

We live in Calgary, AB. Canada and all our Virginia Creeper vines died this winter. Found little orange pods/bumps on some of the stems. Anyone know what this is?
