i would suspect the media as improper.. and causing you to not water properly ...

many florist plants are water hungry plants... but this one might not appreciate so much water ...

also.. florist pots usually dont have drainage... so the plant can be kept on good furniture ...

It was a present. It probably just came from a hardware store but has sentimental value. It is in normal potting mix. It is outside n so the pot has drainage holes and a tray.

so much for that theory .. lol ...

how sodden is the media ... do you let it dry in between waterings???

to tell the truth ... i never got one to live more than a year or so.. they would be called.. short lived perennials ... at least in MI ...

At least here, carnation plants are best maintained by taking tip cuttings and discarding the original plant periodically.
The young plants are much more vigorous than the old woody one.
