Soil less Palm

I love palms, but hate those burnt tips. I tried experimenting with soil less growning. I happened to be in Vegas in 1997 and came upon some seeds that the Public Works dropped while trimming Palm Trees on "The Strip." I grabbed a few and went home to germinate.

This time I decided to use "Aeroponics" by suspending the seeds in air while spraying a fine mist on the seeds. This took approximately 2 years. Using water only, my Palm sprouted, I then put it in a soil less solution of round lava rocks.

Using water to feed the Palm, I hardly ever use any fertilizer. When I do use fertilizer, I use the lightest solution you can use, a tiny amount, maybe twice a year. After 7 years of growth, the Palm is doing phenomenal. Leaf tip burn is almost zero, the Palm is a healthy green, growing great. Not showing any signs of deficiencies.

I have never had any pest, never have to change the soil. The bugs cannot survive in the soil less conditions. Roots are solid and very compact. I never grow container grown palms in soil again.

These of course survived Hurricane Ike, so some leaves are raveled.

Root Bound?? Not in the Palm Tree world, they love to be compact. If these Palms were grown in a soil filled pot, they would be considered root bound, and would have to be transplanted. So, by going soil less, I do not need to transplant this for many more years!!!!

By the way, these Palms are literally sitting in water 24 hours a day!!!
