When was it planted?
And how - plugs or sod?

What is your "schedule" for water?
How often?
How long?

Hi,

I was watering about 1 inch per week split across 7 days per week on days over 90 degrees but now I am down to splitting it across 2 days a week. I water at 7 AM.

It was planted as sod 2 years ago and was solid, beautiful bright green until a month ago.

The strange thing is that so many of the pieces seem to have shallow roots and have a couple of green leaves but the rest and the sheaths are brown then there are some that are totally dead.

z-52 zoysia grass is a warm-season grass. And blurbs say it is well adapted to heat and cold, but no one says how much of either one.

The shallow roots may be due to splitting an inch of water over 7 days which would moisten a very shallow depth. Roots grow only where soil is moist. I should think once, possibly twice, a week would be a far better plan.

I would contact my local office of my state universities Cooperative Extension Service and talk with them. USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7 is, as I recall, the northern limit of Zoysia grass and what I have seen about it this grass struggles to survive there.

Well everyone in my city has zoysia so it isn't that. It could be water but the problem started before I switched to frequent waterings. I may dig up a square and search for grubs

there is a very hardcore lawn forum ... and i have never seen the lawn warriors.. in this forum ...

might want to see if there are other experts out in the ether ...

If everyone else has Zoysia does anyone else have this problem? Your Extension Service people more than likely will have the answers to your questions.
