Hmmmmm. The whole concept escapes me.

i have been mulling it all day ...

i like the idea of divine retribution.. in weekly increments..

but you arent really trapping anything..

you are killing the next generation.. not the one that lives with you ...

keep up Gods work... regardless ... if you are happy. i am happy for you ...

I have thought about giving the female a place to lay eggs and there will be that many less adults to deal with. Those females will find somewhere so why not under our control. But it is a project one can't forget to keep up on.

Interesting point about making the water more desirable. I think you are doing good work. Thanks for the ideas!

Mosquitoes will gladly lay eggs in freshly-drawn tap water. Nothing needs to be anaerobically decomposing in it, fresh enough to drink is fine.

I do this (as a side-effect) of catching rain water for watering potted plants. Like you said, just make sure to use/dump it before anything can hatch so you are not defeating the purpose. A piece of chicken-wire gauge screen over the top should prevent baby birds from accidentally drowning (or other critters you don't want to find floating in your barrel/bucket,) but allows mosquitoes to access the water. I totally agree, for every larvae that dies when dumped, that's 1 less skeeter!

You could do something really useful and put up a bird bath. Set it up near the outdoor hose so that you can spray it clean every day or so. I always have a batch of wrigglers in my bird bath...they appear overnight.

Birds really love and need sources of clean water.
