Johnny, I wish you luck. I have good luck with an electric fence and I don't even go all the way around my garden. I have never tried to bait a wire, but cant see why it would not work. I do sometimes have to reinstall the wire. My best guess is that when one deer gets bit by the wire, they all run, some times knocking the wire down. I fix it where it breaks away easily and is no problem to reattach it.

I'm still tired. 1,000 feet of electric fence did me in. Two of the runs are 400 feet long so I had to put in four braced corner posts. I hope they like Jiffy peanut butter.

I read where Greens taste better after a freeze. Your stuff still looks green in the picture so I'd think they were still fit to eat.

I think that most cool-season plants do taste better after being exposed to some freezing weather.

Larry, I hate that the freeze got your plants. I know it is inevitable at this time of the year, but every now and then we get lucky and the plants make it most of the way through the winter. I have had plants that were frozen as badly as yours look in the photo sometimes come back from the roots and grow again until the next really cold weather gets them.

I think it was in the winter of 2012-13 that most of my garden plants made it through the entire winter to some degree, though some of them had to regrow several times after freezing back to the ground. We had kale, collards, turnips and beets all winter, and broccoli for most of it. I had to take out some of the cabbage plants before they headed up in early spring though because they were so slow to recover from the freezes and I needed their space for warm-season crops. It isn't often the cool-season plants from the fall garden survive long enough to be a problem at spring planting time, but it is a nice problem to have.
