The article in Fine Gardening is written by Jennifer Bartley, author of Designing the New Kitchen Garden. The illustration in the article is the cover of the book.

Mr Toad, saw the issue today on the newsstand. Was tempted until I opened the magazine and saw the familiar illustration.

Donna, I have Jennifer's book and had intended to read it before re-designing my own garden. Have to confess I only looked at a couple pics and never got around to reading the book. Now I only have a few weeks before the new garden has to be transplant-ready. I pretty much knew what I wanted going in ... we'll see how that all works out in the end.

If you have a reasonable amount of experience with garden design, I am sure you'll do just fine. The MOST valuable thing in the Bartley book for me was the drawing that appeared in the Fine Gardening article. Which is not to say I am sorry I got the book. It was very very interesting and I did pick up several good ideas from it. It also has excellent lists and information on crop rotation, which was totally new to me.

I know what you mean about time pressure. We have had so much rain this month that my area is entirely too wet to dig. I have all my materials stacked up all around it, and day by day, I am ready to scream with frustration! Cursed old heavy red clay....:)
