Aurora Borealis source?

Hello all,

Does anybody know of a source for the Aurora Borealis Plumeria? I so want one! My very first plumeria is a white pudica, blooming its head off; while I love it, it has no fragrance. The Aurora Borealis seems like it has the color, form, and fragrance I'm looking for in a new plumie acquisition.

Thanks for any leads.

James, AB sounds fabulous! Who was the pod parent? Is someone commercial propagating the variety for you? Where can we purchase cuttings?

    Jandey,
I do not know the pod parent as I received the seedling (was about 20") when I was 9yrs old. I was in Hawaii at my uncles during the summer and his friend who grew plumeria gave him the seedling to give to me as I was avidly collecting Orchids, Plumeria, Ti leave, ginger and anthurium plants. My uncle passed away a while ago and about 4yrs ago I asked my aunt in Hawaii who the gentleman was that the seedling (my Aurora Borealis)was from and my aunt told me it was from Mr Toba. So I do not know the pod parents and was curious as to its origins also thats why I asked my aunt.

As for commercial source the only ones would be people I gifted cuttings to and who may possible have a large enough of a plant to cut from. Everyone I have gifted Aurora to that are known for being mad scientists and plumie "experts" always tell me that they can get Aurora to grow quickly for them, but when I ask several years down the line I always get the same response when I asked if she has grown well for them, "she dosn't seem to do much" or "shes a really slow one". I've been giving cuttings away of her for over 25yrs. Basically the only people who received plants and cuttings have been in Texas (1 person waving at Paula), Floirda (1 about 3yrs ago), and majority in Southern California (Goleta, La Verne, Westchester, Tustin, Oceanside, Carlsbad, Cerritos, Long Beach, Wilmington, Lakewood,Torrance, Carson, Gardena, Manhattan Beach, West LA, Redondo Beach, Beverly Hills).
Out of the listed cities a few of the people I did gift plants and cuttings to do sell plumies. I also know someone who was selling Aurora or an Aurora look alike under a different name, could never confirm if it was Aurora as I never had the opportunity to speak to him directly about it. I have only seen blooms people had picked from their plant and pictures people who know this person have shown me so can not be sure it is the same plant. The person who is selling the Aurora look alike stated to people someone from Long beach community college had a tree of it and was letting him cut from it (again I gifted Aurora to people in Long beach and Lakewood and Cerritos which are surrounding cities to where LBCC is located, so it could be Aurora.). So you may find a commercial source.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, James. I've heard of Mr. Toba and seen some fantastic plants from him. Looks like it will continue to be a very rare plant for a lucky few. If it grows very slowly then it's understandable why no one would want to part with any piece of it! How about you just keep posting pics of it now and again for us? ;)

@jandey1, were you ever able to get a hold on one? She’s indeed a beauty!! I have been looking for one too… Oh my….just gorgeous!

@Phuong, Mike’s tree is too small so it will take him several eyes until he can cut it, that is if he ever cuts it.

@kimo/James, I loved learning about the history behind her. You were indeed a lucky kid with great skills. Congratulations on owning such a beautiful cultivar. 🧡
