That sounds like it would work if it doesnt drag all the seed to one spot...
better yet would have been to sow your seed in late fall just before a snow. Snow cover keeps it mostly safe from birds and by spring the seed is firmly embedded. Also benefits those wildflowers requiring a cold period before germinating.

you might try dragging a six foot tall piece of chain link fence about 10 feetlong. depending on the state of the area you are planting(ie. soil type, amount of vegetation present, moisture, slope,etc) you might want to add weight to the top of your drag to scratch the soil surface a little more.
I like to drag just before seeding and again just after to get good seed/soil contact.
