Potager Gardens

You have inspired me!

What a great new forum! I have a very small yard with little space that has sun and have often wondered how to make a vegetable garden that would please the neighbors as well as myself. This forum has inspired me!

This summer I'll be making raised beds in the back yard (using two long-neglected clothes-line poles as trellis supports) and planting a combination of veggies and flowers. I'm hoping they will be both practical and attractive. I've also decided to take advantage of my sunny south-facing entrance to my house with large planter boxes - with cascading flowers and also attractive veggies.

While I won't be able to claim I have a "potager" per se...I can't wait to see how it turns out!

Welcome, Alys! I think your potager plans will be the start of lovely things to come. When I first started, I had only a few raised beds, too. You'll be surprised at how much you can grow in a small space, especially if you use the space vertically as well as horizontally. Trellises are a must for this reason. You can grow beans, peas, cukes, squash, gourds and other vining plants up a trellis. Tomatoes will climb a trellis, too, if trained early on.
