That is more or less how I did it this winter. Except I used bales of straw instead of wooden frames and I spread a layer of straw over the plastic covering. I'm hoping for better results than I've had with other methods.

We block our perennials out on the ground, cover with a permeable fabric, and that is it until spring. Never a problem with rodents - yet, at any rate, and it has been over 15 years of this.

Hi Josh,

The straw bales should work out great, because of the insulation. I chose the wood frames because they needed to be permanant frames. I overwintered in them and sold out of them. Just make sure you bait, especially with straw frames.
