I finally decided to try this and took cuttings in late November, wrapped them in damp newspaper,then in a plastic bag and put the whole package in the refrigerator. It has been 8 weeks and the buds were starting to swell so I thought it might be time to try and root them. I verified all the the wood was live and showed bright green when you peeled back the bark. I potted the cuttings and put plastic bags over each pot. They are now under lights and on heating mats.

The cuttings are from Viburnum dentatum 'Autumn Jazz', Viburnum lantana 'Variegata', Viburnum dilatatum 'Erie', Hydrangea paniculata 'Tardiva' and Salix geyeriana. All are supposedly easy to root. Keep your fingers crossed for me that in 6 to 8 weeks I have roots, otherwise I will have a bunch of dead twigs.
