Rooting hydrangeas!?!?

I am trying to root some of the branches of my Endless Summer Hydrangea by covering some of the branches w/ soil. How long after I get the branches to root will it take before the new plant will bloom? What is the typical amount of time that it takes a Hydrangea at this stage to bloom? Any suggestions on propagating these plants are also appreciated. Thanks!

Hydrangea are one of the easiest plants to root from cuttings. I have never tried layering them as a result. Al

Hopin4rain, I have rooted a several Hydrangeas using the ground layering method. I dug a shallow trench in the soil, took a low-growing branch & directed it into the trench, covered it with soil and placed a brick on top to hold it in place. I left mine there until the following spring and they had nice roots.

I guess, if you're in a hurry, you could do this in the spring and then check on them a month or so later. I usually just remove the brick and give the branch a gentle tug to see if it's rooted.

They are easy. I don't think you'll have any problems. Good luck!
