Cleaning your Dryer Lint Trap - How often do you do it?
Comments (49)I clean the 'easy' one every time I use the dryer. About once a month I use a long wand like flexible brush to clean as far down into the vent as possible. I also use the wand attachment on the vacuum to clean as far into the vent as possible once a month. I became diligent about this after seeing the Fire Chief of a small town on television talking about it. HIS house burned to the ground because neither he or his wife ever deep cleaned the dryer vent. Made a huge impression on me!...See MoreWhat do you use to wash your windows and how often do you do it?
Comments (148)I was in the industrial cleaning biz for 15 years and hired a service to clean some of the most important windows at the GM Tech Center. He used Dawn and a squeegee. The rags were only used to dry his squeegee. Sadly, my own windows are a mess from years of bug spray which they claim will rinse off with a power washer. Nope. It doesn't. We quit the service 5 years ago and the windows are all still hazy. It's something to do with the pyrethrum and I've asked around - yep, it's bad for windows but you can't help to get the overspray when they spray your entire house. When I clean my windows I use Dawn, cleaning vinegar, and a nice squeegee and only a towel to dry my squeegee. You don't go up and down or from one side to the other. You go in a big hairpin turn type of swiping with the squeegee. It's hard to describe, but, it's how it's done. Yes, it's time. I haven't cleaned mine since spring, mostly because I haven't been here much. Our windows at our vacation home are bad as well, right now. I've been there as much as I've been here....See MorePOLL: How often do you throw out your sponge?
Comments (154)I don't use sponges, except that kind with that scrubbing material on the other side (to wash the bathtub and bathroom sink, with Ajax, Comet, or such). I let it dry afterward, and maybe use it a few times. If I lived alone, I might use sponges in the kitchen, but in a house full of people, I never know where they've been. I like using stainless steel pot scrubbers (see the picture) and dish wands (not the ones with sponges, but the bristly ones; see the other picture) to wash dishes. Wash cloths or rags (see the other picture) are nice, too. I used to be afraid of using scouring pads, but now they're like the easiest thing for me to use sometimes. I must have had tender skin. Maybe handling all those hot peppers helped. The receptors they activate aren't just for heat, but also for things like abraision (e.g. probably some of the same kinds of pain activated by rug burns and/or such). It would stand to reason that your body might think it needs to develop stronger skin if it thinks you're rubbing it against stuff much....See MoreHow often do you vacuum/clean floors with a shedding dog?
Comments (101)I have two cats and two dogs. One dog has hair and I've never seen one of his hairs shed. One dog is a yorkiechon and she sheds like crazy. My one cat barely sheds and my kitten sheds like crazy. Coincidentally, my males don't shed, my females do! Anyway, I vacuum twice a day. I have a light weight inexpensive handheld vacuum that does the job well (Moosoo 17k, Pergo flooring & area rugs). It takes me less than 10 minutes to vacuum my entire downstairs level (1800 sq ft home). My animals don't spend a lot of time upstairs so I vacuum upstairs (Shark corded vacuum, builder grade carpeting throughout) 1-2 times per week. I mop every Friday. I'm a SAHM now but even when I did work I vacuumed a lot. I like a clean floor! When I mop I use my O'Cedar mop and bucket. I add 4 oz. of whichever Odoban I have on hand to the water, 8 pumps, mop floors. They dry super fast, my floors are clean, and my house doesn't smell like cats and dogs. :-)...See Morekbauman
