clematis oops - help save

I was clearing some old morning glory vines off the arbor about a month ago - I accidently grabbed a 2' piece of my clematis! I quickly put it in water and has been there ever since. (no roots)

I checked again today and the bottom buds were still moist while the top buds dried up.

I've never done cuttings before and would like some info as to whether or not I can make an attempt at this point.

It has been inside in a vase with my seedlings (which is my best luck) and now I'd like to give this a shot.

I do have the rootone - 2 varieties about 10 yrs old and 5 years old.

Can I do this inside or should I do this outside? I'm in zone 5 and the weather is now in the 50's and heading into the 60's next week.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated from the experts.

Thanks, Deederbug
